Cuculus micropterus, we know where ur car is parking…
Wednesday, May 20th, 2009Since around a month there seems to be one particular bird (or bird species) which likes to sing his favourite song during the night …. every night! … yes I know… I have problems …. even can hear birds in the night, so nice …
however, i’m not exactly complaining … but… the stuff this bird sings is more monotonous than minimal music…. just on and on the same theme….
This, together with the fact that this bird prefers to sing at night, when all other birds are sleeping (except nightjars and owls) made me curious, what kind of bird it might be…
here some demonstration of the singing of this bird (later duett with digital brother, trying to teach him more variations - without succeeding)
so, i went through a dozen of birdwatching pages in asia to find any hint about this bird …. and after listening to all the bird sounds i could find, i still couldn’t find this one….
so finally i wrote to the HK birdwatching society with a short recording…. and got immedeate reply … this bird is an indian cuckoo [cuculus micropterus] …. and after comparing what i found in the web about this species, I’m quite sure that this is one …. even though i still didn’t find an answer what he’s singing for in the middle of the night …. however….
back to work
